What We Need

  • Your browser profile’s MetaMask extension data (encrypted vault). If unsure, send the entire browser profile folder.
  • Password hints for the MetaMask vault (see checklist below).
  • (Optional) Browser name/version (e.g., Chrome 123), operating system, and approximate date you last logged in.

We do not need your seed phrase to perform an assessment. Never share your seed phrase or private keys.

Important Notes

  • MetaMask stores an encrypted vault inside your browser’s extension storage. The password is required to decrypt.
  • Close the browser completely before copying files to avoid corruption.
  • If you used multiple profiles (e.g., Default, Profile 1), send the one where MetaMask was installed.
  • Sync services (Chrome/Firefox Sync) do not always preserve extension vault data. A local copy is best.

Where to Find MetaMask Files (by Browser/OS)

Chromium Browsers (Chrome / Brave / Edge / Opera)

Goal: Copy the browser profile folder (best) or the MetaMask extension storage folder inside it.

Windows (close browser first):

  • Chrome profile: %LocalAppData%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\
  • Brave profile: %LocalAppData%\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Default\
  • Edge profile: %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default\
  • MetaMask extension storage lives under your profile in folders such as:
    • Local Extension Settings\<MetaMask_Extension_ID>\ (LevelDB)
    • IndexedDB\chrome-extension_<ID>_0.indexeddb.leveldb\

macOS:

  • Chrome: ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default/
  • Brave: ~/Library/Application Support/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/Default/
  • Edge: ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft Edge/Default/
  • Look for the same Local Extension Settings/<ID> and IndexedDB subfolders.

Linux:

  • Chrome: ~/.config/google-chrome/Default/
  • Chromium: ~/.config/chromium/Default/
  • Brave: ~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/Default/
  • Then locate Local Extension Settings/<ID> and/or IndexedDB/.

Tip: If you can’t find the MetaMask extension folder, copy the entire browser profile (e.g., the whole Default folder).

Firefox

Goal: Copy the Firefox profile directory. MetaMask data resides in the profile’s storage/ subfolders (IndexedDB).

Windows:

  • Profiles are under: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ (choose the one ending .default-release or similar).
  • Copy the whole profile folder (e.g., xxxx.default-release).

macOS:

  • ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/ → copy your .default-release profile.

Linux:

  • ~/.mozilla/firefox/ → copy your .default-release profile.

Note: Firefox stores extension data under storage/default/ and storage/permanent/ inside the profile. If unsure, sending the entire profile is safest.

How to Prepare & Send Files (Secure)

  1. Close the browser completely.
  2. Copy the relevant folder(s):
    • Preferred: the entire browser profile directory (easiest, most complete).
    • Alternative: the MetaMask extension storage subfolder(s) mentioned above.
  3. Compress into .zip or .7z and set a temporary password for the archive.
  4. Submit the inquiry on our inquiry page. We will reply with a one-time, secure upload link for your encrypted archive. Please do not email files.
  5. Provide as many password hints as possible (see below). The better the hints, the higher the chance of recovery. Good hints also let us estimate cracking time realistically.

Offline only: All assessments and cracking attempts are performed on isolated systems. We begin with an independent assessment—no commitment required.

Password Hints Guide (What Helps Most)

  • Length (exact or range): e.g., “8–10 characters”, “exactly 12”.
  • Character sets: lowercase/UPPERCASE, digits, symbols (which?).
  • Patterns: Word+year, capitalized word + 2 digits, ends with 88, starts with initials, etc.
  • Words you reuse: names, brands, pets, places, fandoms.
  • Dates/numbers: birthdays, anniversaries; format used (DDMMYYYY, YYYY, etc.).
  • Typical endings: !, !!, 123, 2020, etc.
  • Language/keyboard: non-English letters, QWERTZ/QWERTY habits, frequently used symbols.

Even small details can dramatically narrow the keyspace—saving time and improving your success odds.
